CWLOA trains and certifies youth umpires in Connecticut under the auspices of US Lacrosse. In 2009 more than 400 youth officials received training and certification in over 14 different towns. If you are interested in becoming a youth official, please contact your city/town for additional information.

Youth lacrosse has 4 levels with rule modifications at each level to allow young players the opportunity to learn the game while developing their skills.

Level C - Beginning players, typically 4th grade and below
Level B - 5th to 6th grade
Level A - 7th to 8th grade
Level FC - 7th to 8th grade

Youth Rule Modifications:
No checking for Levels B & C
Modified checking for Level A
Offense can only hold the ball for 3 seconds when closely marked by Defense.
FC level plays with full women's rule and checking (FC games require approval from CWLOA Chair)
USL increased the training requirements for youth officials in 2010.
New candidates must take a 6 hour class.
Returning officials must take a 3 hour class.
All must do 3 hours of field training annually.
Currently towns individually contact referees for game assignments and game fees varies from town to town.

George Longyear is CWLOA Youth Coordinator. Please contact him with any questions
